A special letter from our Vice President, Shannon Thompson:

The PTO Welcomes You to Cisco Elementary School!

Welcome to Cisco.  As a mother who has had to move several times myself, I know personally coming into a new school system can be very scary for children and parents as well.  There is so much to figure out:  the new rules, new teachers, schedules, traditions, and even school song.  Let me reassure you that you have chosen a very loving and friendly community to relocate to.

As a member of the PTO, I would like to take the time to invite you to join us in supporting our children in their education.  Cisco Elementary has such a wonderful staff of principals, teachers, counselor, aids, support staff, and parents to help make our school a happy and exciting place to be.  Children are hugged and loved daily.  Teachers need to feel the love and support as well.  Cisco Elementary PTO is the Parent Teacher Organization that helps, throughout the year, to provide support to the teachers and staff responsible for shaping the future leaders of our community, state, and nation.  I know, it sounds overwhelming; but, one day we rock them to sleep and it seems the next we are sending them out into this big world.  Anything that PTO can do to make the job of rearing children easier and more successful, we want to do.

Through the last year, PTO has purchased awnings for the outside to help provide protection to students and staff from the weather; we helped to purchase new instruments for the music room; and we installed roll-up doors for the gym.  Recently, we purchased a large piece of equipment called a rizograph that produces beautiful copies of lessons very rapidly. We purchase items to help with field trips, such as coolers, t-shirts for young students, and many other small items. We help to maintain the playground by purchasing new equipment and safeguard any areas that might be run-down or a hazard.  We work with our librarians to purchase new items and books.

You ask how we can afford to do all of this. Good question!  For the past two years, the PTO has gathered together to make a hand made quilt. Each is very different and made with much love and care.  We then, not your children, sell raffle tickets for a drawing.  We put on book fairs; and we are selling bracelets this year. We also, sell memberships to individuals and businesses help sponsor our efforts.  We have monthly bake sales of donated baked items. In cooperation with our nursing staff, we sell fruit for “Fruity Fridays” to promote healthy eating.

So, now I leave you with this. We would love to have your help, participation, and support in whatever way you can. We understand you may work, have smaller children, or have elderly parents. We can work around that. If you can help with holiday parties, send baked goods, provide decorations, offer suggestions, or just provide financial support, you can still be a part of the wonderful organization. (The membership form is enclosed.)

We have monthly meetings and a wonderful program by our children will accompany many of these. At each parent/teacher meeting, we will sell pizza and drinks.  If you would like to join us in supporting the education and wellbeing of the children of Cisco, please contact: Regina @ 442-3762 or Shannon @ 442-1268.

The PTO Thanks you,

Vice President
