Hello and thank you for visiting my page! I am so excited to be teaching second grade reading this year! This is such a great age and the kiddos are so eager to learn and grow.
I will tell you just a little bit about myself. I grew up in this general area and have strong ties to Cisco. My dad, Delbert Biggs, was a graduate of Cisco College. My mother, Becky Green Biggs, worked at the Cisco Hospital as a Medical Records Clerk and Transcriptionist for several years. My Nana (Colleen Owens Green) and Granddad (Bill Green) were both Cisco High School Graduates (class of 1945 and 46, respectively) and my Granny (Estelle Simmons Biggs) went to school in Cisco until she married in 1948 at age 16. My great-grandfather (Red Owens) was the city barber in Cisco until he went blind in the early 1980's. Last, but not least, my great-aunt, Coleen Strawn, was a teacher in the CISD until her retirement. My family loves Cisco, and I am so proud to be here!
I graduated High School from Cross Plains in 1992. After High School, I attended the Tarleton State University Police Academy. I worked in law enforcement until I took retirement in 2006 after the birth of my youngest son, Zachary. I was fortunate to stay at home with him until he started school. When Zachary started school, I decided to pursue my teaching degree. I graduated from LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas with a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies. I am certified to teach in Early Childhood through Sixth grade.
I have been married since 1995. We have 3 children and 4 grandchildren. Zachary is currently a sixth grade student here in Cisco. He loves the Cisco schools and is enjoying Jr.High!
Our classroom this year includes flexible seating. After doing a considerable amount of research, I decided that flexible seating was a great option to help my students learn and focus. Our flexible seating options include yoga donuts and peanuts, Kore wobble stools, stability discs, pillows and cushions. We have tables of various heights, too. Students are allowed to choose their most comfortable and productive seating and table options. Along with being a flexible seating classroom, we are also a blended learning classroom. Blended learning incorporates traditional teaching methods with new methods and technology. This allows me to be able to customize my teaching to accommodate the needs of each student more effectively. I am really thrilled to have this opportunity and the honor of teaching your kiddos!
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I would also like to invite you to stop by and visit your student at lunch and to volunteer to be a classroom reading friend! We would love to have you schedule a time to come by and read your favorite children's book to our class!
