Resources and Services for Cisco Elementary

The Davis Learning Resource Center (LRC) promotes the idea of lifelong reading and learning and offers the following activities to encourage voluntary free reading and to introduce students to quality children's literature:

*Accelerated Reading Program: Students are placed on their individual reading level and tested on comprehension and vocabulary. As students reach their goals, they can be reevaluated and raise their reading levels.

*BlueBonnet Reading Program: Students must read at least five books on the selected list in order to participate.

*The R.A.C.E. (Read Across Cisco Elementary): Students are rewarded based on the numbers of books read during this program.

The Davis LRC provides a collection of quality print and non-print resources aligned with the school's curriculum. This collection includes:

                    *fiction and non-fiction books

                    *reference books

                    *magazines

                    *newspapers

                    *audiovisual resources

Also available through the Davis LRC:

*student computers for individual use of curriculum-related software programs                         and online research

                    *virtual field trips

*reading pit for reading to students

*short library lessons for classes in grades K-5

As learning resources expand continually, many databases are maintained by the Cisco I.S.D. Libraries. These are great resources for both students and teachers. Online resources, both databases and other types of tools, available are:

                    **Homework tutor

                    **GALE

                    **EB online

                    **EBSCO

                    *Award Lists

**While these online tools may be used at school or at home, many require a password; please look for postings in the LRC for this information or ask a member of the Library staff.
