District of Innovation Plan

H.B. 1842 (84th Session of the Texas Legislature) in part amended Chapter 12 of the Texas Education Code (TEC) to create Districts of Innovations (DOI). Districts are eligible for designation if certain performance requirements are met and the district follows certain procedures for adoption as outlined in Statute. The designation provides the district will be exempt from certain sections of the TEC that inhibit the goals of the district as outlined in the locally adopted Innovation Plan.

2022-2027 District of Innovation (DOI) Plan

The Cisco ISD Board of Trustees will consider to approve the renewal to its District of Innovation (DOI) plan on August  21st, 2022. It will be in place through April 21st, 2027.

What is District of Innovation?

The District of Innovation (DOI) process allows public school districts to exempt certain elements of the Texas Education Code (TEC) in order to meet innovative needs of students. Round Rock ISD first utilized the DOI designation in August of 2016. The original plan has expired and the District is moving forward with a new updated plan for 2022-2027.

  • June 13, 2022
    • Committee public meeting to approve proposed plan 
  • July 7, 2022
    • Superintendent notify commissioner of board of trustees’ intent to renew
  • July 15, 2022
    • Final version of plan posted to website for 30 days 
  • August 17, 2022
    • Board of trustees consider/approve proposed local plan 
  • August 18, 2022
    • Superintendent notify commissioner of approved plan of Local approved plan posted to district website o Superintendent provides TEA link to approved plan on website
