Notice of Nondiscrimination Under Title IX
(34 C.F.R. § 106.8(b)(1))
Cisco Independent School District does not discriminate on the basis of sex in its education programs or activities and is required by Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and its implementing regulations not to discriminate in such a manner.
Title IX prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, including sexual harassment, in any education program or activity that receives federal financial assistance. Cisco ISD’s Title IX obligations extend to admission and employment.
Cisco ISD prohibits sexual harassment, which includes:
-
Quid pro quo harassment by an employee;
-
Unwelcome conduct on the basis of sex that is so severe, pervasive, and objectively offensive that it effectively denies a person equal access to the education program or activity; and
-
Sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, or stalking as defined by applicable law.
Cisco ISD also prohibits retaliation against individuals for making a report or complaint of sex discrimination, for participating in or refusing to participate in a Title IX grievance process, or for otherwise exercising rights under Title IX.
Inquiries about the application of Title IX may be referred to the District’s Title IX Coordinator, to the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights of the U.S. Department of Education, or to both.
Title IX Grievance Process
Cisco ISD has adopted grievance procedures that provide for the prompt and equitable resolution of student and employee complaints alleging any action that would be prohibited by Title IX and its implementing regulations. These procedures:
-
Apply to formal complaints of sexual harassment under Title IX;
-
Describe how to report sexual harassment to the Title IX Coordinator;
-
Ensure an objective evaluation of all relevant evidence;
-
Require that Title IX personnel be free from bias and conflicts of interest; and
-
Provide the parties with notice, an opportunity to present evidence, and written determinations.
